Markets Rise and fall

The markets have fallen significantly of late which in all honesty is not that much of a surprise given that they were nearing all time highs just before this latest fall.

However as the chart below shows, the history of the FTSE 100 over the last 10 years puts the most recent decline in values into some sort of perspective. In essence, it’s what markets do. They go up and they go down, but if you have a well designed portfolio that is spread across different areas that are not only split according to your personal needs, but you then also rebalance these regularly, you should be fine, taking a long term view.

So while it can be a worry when markets fall if you have the right investment strategy in place that is personalised to you then you should be able to afford a long term view of thing. The chart above shows that over the past ten years, getting worried by falls in the markets can happen pretty often so it is probably best to learn to take them as they come and know that things will improve and that an upturn is more than likely just around the corner.
